Leeton workshop explores local solutions to strengthen healthcare access
The Murrumbidgee Health and Knowledge Precinct has joined local leaders, healthcare providers, community representatives and partners in Leeton to explore practical ways to strengthen healthcare access for the local community.
The workshop marked an important milestone in the Collaborative Care Project for Leeton, moving the initiative into its co-design phase.
Participants came together to discuss how services can be better coordinated, how communication about available healthcare can be improved, and how residents can be supported to more easily navigate the local health system.
One of the key ideas explored was the potential development of a Leeton Health Hub network. This model would aim to connect local providers and residents with regional programs, services and innovations across the Murrumbidgee.
MHKP Manager Maya De Mattia said the workshop reflected the purpose of the Precinct, bringing people together to explore innovative, practical and locally led solutions.
The co-design approach is central to the project. Ideas generated during the workshop were built on extensive consultation with local health professionals and community members, helping ensure future solutions reflect the needs, strengths and priorities of the Leeton community.
Over the coming months, the project will continue shaping initiatives focused on improving awareness of health services, strengthening care coordination, supporting health promotion and education, and connecting local providers with regional opportunities and innovation.
The work aligns strongly with the Precinct’s One System Integration focus area, which supports better integration of regional healthcare systems so people experience more seamless, patient-centred care.
There is also strong potential for the Leeton model to inform healthcare approaches in other rural communities across the Murrumbidgee.
The Murrumbidgee Health and Knowledge Precinct looks forward to continuing to work with local partners to co-design sustainable solutions that improve access to care and support better health and wellbeing outcomes for local communities.
